Brandy.

Kyla Pratt.
Put those beautiful faces together.
There was no single way to look like a Black girl.
Different shades.
Different features.
Different hair.
Different bodies.
Different smiles.
Different kinds of beauty.
Was representation perfect?
No.
But sometimes a little girl doesn’t need television to tell her she is the most beautiful girl in the world.
She needs something quieter.
She needs to see enough girls that eventually she recognizes:
Oh.
There I am.
SURVIVOR AFFIRMATION:
There has never been one correct way to be beautiful in my skin.
I do not have to resemble another woman to recognize her beauty.
Her beauty does not subtract from mine.
We can be different and both be breathtaking.
There is room in beauty for all of us.
REFLECTION:
Who was one of the first Black girls or women you remember seeing on television and thinking, “She is beautiful”?
May every little girl encounter enough kinds of beauty that she never mistakes somebody else’s reflection for the measurement of her own.
