You are not required to shrink your truth just because it makes other people uncomfortable.
You are not here to rescue those who ignored your drowning.
You are not obligated to soothe the shame of people who harmed you or stayed silent while you were being harmed.
Sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is to stop performing peace.
You don’t have to explain why you’re tired.
You don’t have to explain why you’re done.
You don’t have to explain why you are no longer available for anything that costs you you.
There is nothing wrong with protecting the softest parts of you.
There is nothing wrong with choosing safety over sentimentality.
There is nothing wrong with saying:
“I don’t feel safe there.”
“I don’t trust that.”
“I will not go back.”
Some people will call your strength selfish.
Some will call your healing mean.
But let them talk.
Your healing is not a democracy.
It does not require a group vote.
It is yours. Holy. Personal. And powerful.
And when you choose yourself—after all you’ve been through—
that is not abandonment of others.
That is a homecoming to yourself.
With truth and tenderness,
